| We don't know much about the history of The Duke - not even the identity of this eponymous peer, but we do know this old pub has been much loved by locals over many years. Very much part of the Deptford music scene in the 1970's and 80's it hosted performances by numerous local bands including such notable acts as Squeeze and Dire Straits. It is even claimed that their song 'Sultans of Swing 'was inspired by a band playing at The Duke. | ||||

Now after complete modernisation the Duke opened on October 10th
2008.
Restored beyond its former glory, with a roof terrace,
dining room and a brand new kitchen it is a truly splendid
addition to the area. Modern and stylish, displaying paintings by
local artists, but a proper pub with real beer, perfect wines and great food. An
oasis in the middle of high and rising West Greenwich.
The bar is
open from midday to midnight Monday to Thursday, midday to 1am on
Fridays and Saturdays and midday to 11pm on Sundays. Find us on the corner of Creek Road and Gonson Street between the Laban Dance Centre and MacMillan student village. Less than 10 minutes walk from Deptford and Greenwich stations and Cutty Sark DLR. |
